The Sorrento Residence showcases the transformation of a traditional single-storey brick home into a sophisticated two-storey coastal retreat. Designed to maximise lifestyle, functionality, and connection to its elevated surroundings, the project reimagined both the home’s architecture and outdoor living spaces to create a contemporary residence suited to modern family living.
Inspired by the relaxed elegance of coastal architecture, the design delivers a seamless balance of refined aesthetics, practical living, and timeless appeal.
Project Brief
The client engaged Ellipse Architecture to undertake a comprehensive redevelopment of their existing residence, transforming the original single-storey brick home into a spacious two-storey beach-inspired family home.
The brief included a complete redesign of the internal floor plan, the addition of a second storey, a contemporary façade upgrade featuring coastal-style cladding, and the creation of a striking new entrance that would enhance the home’s street presence. Externally, the sloping backyard was reconfigured into a functional, levelled entertaining space, incorporating an upgraded pool area and an elevated outdoor terrace overlooking the landscape.
Design Outcome
The completed design introduces a fresh architectural identity while significantly improving the home’s functionality and connection to its outdoor environment. A carefully considered floor plan enhances natural light, circulation, and spatial flow, while the addition of a second level provides generous accommodation and elevated living spaces.
Architectural features including a statement fireplace, feature staircase, expansive kitchen, luxurious master suite, and first-floor terrace establish a refined yet relaxed coastal aesthetic. The redesigned front elevation, contemporary cladding, integrated carport, and landscaped outdoor spaces combine to create a cohesive residence that reflects modern coastal living with elegance and sophistication.
